Dordrecht Academy

Dordrecht Academy is an initiative of the Drechtsteden Higher Education Programme (PHOD), a partnership between government, education and employers. The programme has the ambition to develop higher education that is in line with the promising regional labour market and the professions of the future. The Dordrecht region is struggling with a shortage of practical, higher professionally educated personnel, especially in healthcare, technology and education. There is a great need for professionals who have knowledge of the latest (technological) developments and who can use their skills to initiate innovation. However, the possibilities for (re)training at a practical higher professional education level in the Drechtsteden are limited. High school and MBO students often leave their native area to pursue bachelor’s education elsewhere. Too few bachelor graduates come back to work there. There was little choice for employees who wanted to develop further close to home, part-time. With Dordrecht Academy, that is about to change.
