The Hague is the capital of the province of South Holland and with 537,833 inhabitants the third largest municipality in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Since 1 January 2015, The Hague, together with 22 other municipalities, has formed the Metropolitan Region Rotterdam The Hague, with a combined population of 2.3 million.
